Tyler Logan

Tyler grew up hiking and backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California before being introduced to rock climbing as a teenager back in 1990. In the years since, he has climbed extensively in this same mountain range, often during breaks while working as a high school English teacher. He made multiple ascents of El Cap during these years and relished having summers off so he could bask in the glory of the Sierra’s high country. Living in southern California, Tyler was also active climbing and sometimes establishing routes at various crags from Joshua Tree to Big Bear. A self-admitted sport-climbing junkie, he is not ashamed to clip bolts when he isn’t trad climbing. After more than ten years in the classroom, Tyler began exploring guiding as a career, first in the Cascades in the Pacific Northwest (he has guided Rainier, Baker, Shuksan and other peaks in the region) during summers before committing to working as a full-time guide a couple of years later. He and his wife have been living in the Eastern Sierra region since 2013. Shortly after COVID, Tyler entered the avalanche education world to supplement his guiding work and to help meet the huge increase in demand for avalanche education following the pandemic. He began ski guiding around that time as well. While he primarily guides in and around the Sierra, Tyler also guides in Red Rocks near Las Vegas and at his old stomping grounds of Joshua Tree and Idyllwild on occasion. He loves being able to draw on his background as a classroom teacher while working in the far-superior outdoor setting.

Tyler is a Certified Rock Guide through the American Mountain Guides Association as well as an Apprentice Alpine and Ski Guide. He holds a Pro 2 avalanche certification, professional membership with the American Avalanche Association, and is an AIARE Course Leader and a Wilderness First Responder since 2014.
