White Mountain

White Mountain Peak, 14246 ft/4342m is located approximately 22 miles northeast of the city of Bishop on US-395 in the White Mountains of the Inyo National Forest. It is the third highest peak in California and the highest outside of the Sierra Nevada.

Itinerary

We will meet at the SMI Office at around 4AM and then take the 1.5 to 2 drive up the trailhead. The 7-mile South Face route (class 1) is the most popular one and follows a 4WD road to the summit and begins at the trailhead located at the Barcroft Research Station gate at 12,000′ making for a gentle ascent on the straight forward dirt road. The late Spring-Fall ascents generally take anywhere from 6-14 hours for the 14.2 mile round trip.
