Rock Climbing School

We conduct our rock climbing courses in the Eastern Sierra during the spring, summer, and fall months. We also conduct courses in Joshua Tree National Park during the fall, winter, and spring. In addition we also offer beginning classes at popular Southern California climbing areas. The Eastern Sierra is world famous for offering some of the finest rock climbing found anywhere. There are climbing areas for all ability levels and preferences. Joshua Tree is just as famous as the Sierra and is located in the high desert. This is a great place to rock climb during all but the summer months. We offer courses in all facets of rock climbing from beginning through advanced levels. Free One Day Introduction to Rock Climbing Course!

 

SMI is conducting FREE One Day Introduction to Rock Climbing Courses in the Eastern Sierra. Come learn from veteran rock climbers and Mountain Guides:

Beginning Rock Climbing

An excellent first day introduction to rock climbing. We practice hand and foot techniques on various mediums from face to crack climbing, belay skills, and rappelling. See dates for Southern California offerings below.

A Day of Rock Climbing

A great next step after our beginning rock climbing class, or for anyone wishing to improve their skills. We practice crack and face techniques, frictioning, stemming, and many other facets of rock climbing.

Anchors for Rock Climbing

This workshop is dedicated to building solid anchors for top roping, belaying, and rescues. We cover correct placements of all modern protection devices, and practice building complete anchor systems.

Prices include: professional guides, permits, all group equipment including tents, stoves, fuel, shovels, avalanche probes, breakfasts and dinners.


Rock Rescue Course

A must for any competent climber. This 2-day course is devoted to instruction and practice in belay escapes, raising and lowering systems, equipment needed, and special knots used in these scenarios. The progression of this course starts with the basics and finishes with each person conducting a mock rescue on their own with an instructor close by for advice and guidance.
